THE CORPORAL KYLE R. SCHNEIDER FOUNDATION COPARTNERS WITH THE NEW YORK STATE B.A.S.S. CHAPTER FEDERATION TO BRING TAKE A SOLDIER FISHING DAY TO CENTRAL NEW YORK.
Oneida Shores Park on beautiful Oneida Lake in Upstate New York, perennial location of The Bassmasters Tour competitions, is the setting for this years 6th Annual Take A Soldier Fishing Day Saturday April 26, 2014. Active duty soldiers from Fort Drum New York, along with other area active duty Service members will participate in this show of gratitude to our Servicemen. Over 80 BASS fishermen and their special bass boats volunteer their resources to show their thanks for protecting the freedoms we all enjoy.
Each boater will match up with two soldiers for the day. Two party boats will be there to take Wounded Warriors out for a day on the water. The day starts with gifts of a rod and reel from Bass Pro Shops, shore breakfast and coffee. The day culminates with a BBQ Cookoff Competition with the BBQ being served to our Troops. Weigh-ins with top fish getting prizes along with door prizes for each participant.
Many local, state and national sponsors contribute to the success of this worthy annual event. All are recognized in event literature and business names appear on the welcome banner. Contact us if your business wishes to get in on next years event. See the NYS BASS Chapter Federation web site for a list of sponsors. The Cpl. Baldwinsville High School French Class headed by Teacher Madame Abbe Guillet took a trip to Normandy France. The students visited the Cemetary at Normandy and paid homage to America's fallen Heroes from WWll and also honored Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider by placing a wreath at the Monument there. The French Class students raised funds to place flags and personal messages submitted from the community on the graves of America's Heroes. A very moving tribute. These young people logged their trip in a blog(link to be coming soon). Madame Guillet is the daughter of a WWII Veteran who was wounded in action during the war.
CPL. SCHNEIDER'S FAMILY EMBARKS UPON MEMORIAL MOUNTAIN CLIMBS
Cpl.Kyle R. Schneider was an avid outdoorsman. Among the activities he most enjoyed was a lifelong love of mountain climbing in New Yorks' Adirondack Mountains. Kyle ascended many mountains in his young life and was well on his way to being a '46er'. NY has 46 'high peaks'; 4000' to over a mile in height, many with majestic views and very rugged and challenging trails. After the one year anniversary of Kyle's death, his family has resolved to honor his memory by climbing all the many peaks he did in his life. As you can see from the pictures we leave a small American Flag with a picture of Kyle attatched on the summit. We've recieved an incrediblely positive response from folks who find his picture. We are pleased to hear from people who are moved by Kyles life and contact us to express their appreciation and gratitude for all of our Veterans sacrifices. One hiker, a reporter, Tom Woodman, called and interviewed Kyles' Mom. Kyle continues to inspire and brings out the best in people. Kyle's story is featured in the Nov/Dec 2012 issue of the bimonthly Adirondack Explorer Magazine (see: Park Perspectives: A Day on Bald Mountain). http://www.adirondackexplorer.org/
